I got a private message on TA telling me about the program….I am very excited BUT I think am still a little fish in the big ocean….my dollar volume at the Ritz can’t compare to who I assume this program is going after. That said, in 10 days or so I will be seeing if I qualify or what I need to do to qualify, lol.

Checking the Ritz Casino site they only say that VIP members can earn comps etc. Unfortunately, no breakdown on how many points are required. It sounds like it will be set up similar to the format in Vegas. The thing about Aruba though is even those of us who enjoy the casino; usually still want to spend a fair amount of time on the beach. I’m assuming that to reach the point status you will need to be playing on average 4 to 6 hours a day. Table games and even video poker generally don’t earn points at the same level as slot play. So… I will be really curious for more details.

Peg, are you saying slots earn more points than table games? I know NOTHING about earning points via slot machines. If its 4 hours of blackjack at $25 a hand….count me in! Other than that, my chances of getting this “card” are slim, lol.

Yes, absolutely. The theory is that you will lose more on slots and that you are more apt to up your play. On a penny slot you can bet as much as $10 a spin or as little as 40 cents. When you play the tables they figure your play is more predictable. If you think about it, how many times a minute do you hit the spin button on a slot, at even $5 a spin it adds up. Tom loves the tables and spends more time in the casino then I do, yet I obtained Gold card status before he did because I play the slots. You have to maintain a certain level of play (points) each year to hold onto the Gold. If you earn more points you move on to the platinum card. I imagine the Ritz will be pretty much the same.

That sounds like the typical night in Aruba 😎 But if we are being completely honesty, I am betting you logged more hours in the casino than I did last trip 🙂 I had 2 late nights…the one we were out, and the other time I won decent cash, lol. This trip I am hoping I close the place down 4 our of my 5 nights 🙂

For every game, you can determine the expected win for the casino, even if the player plays an optimal strategy. The casino’s expected return, measured as the percentage of amount bet, is much higher on the slot machines than for table games. The gimmicky recently created games – think Caribbean Stud, 3 card poker, etc. – are next. Then it is something like roulette, baccarat, craps and finally blackjack (even without counting cards). Poker, of course, is played against other players, not the house, so the take for the casino is simply a set percentage of every pot, up to a maximum figure. For players, if there skill is sufficiently more than the players they play against, they can actually have a mathematical advantage in their favor, even taking into consideration the casino’s “rake.” So, casinos would rather you play slots, and they give you more incentive to play them by the rewards programs. In the long run, even taking into consideration the rewards points, it is probably smarter to be a skilled table game player and to choose your games wisely. For those who simply enjoy the fun and the gamble and don’t want to take the time to master each game, slots can be a lot of fun. And the lure of the big jackpot is there, unlike games like blackjack, that never pay more than 3 to 2, and often 6 to 5 these days. As always, consider your gambling money to be entertainment money, never gamble more than you are comfortable losing and you will have a good time no matter what.
